Abstract

In a multicultural environment like the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada, mental health-care system must serve the needs of increasingly diverse populations. Today, there is much discussion around the concept of “global” mental health. This movement has stimulated a countermovement, proposing that mental health is a local matter and that systems for promoting mental health must take on board the traditions of local communities and what they want from health.
