Abstract

Introduction Concussion or mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) may precipitate and exacerbate mental health difficulties (MHD) and impact recovery and wellbeing. However, mental health difficulties are less as well understood compared to the more common concussion symptoms. Over one-third of Australian youth with concussion showed elevated levels of anxiety and depression symptoms. This proposal aims to: 1) characterise the prevalence and nature of mental health difficulties experienced in children and adolescents (<18 years) post-concussion, and 2) examine potential relationship(s) prolonged between MHD and recovery.
