Abstract
The Office for National Statistics 1999 survey of mental health problems in young people revealed that 10 per cent of five- to fifteen-year-olds are suffering from serious mental health disorders, interfering significantly with their ability to get on with their lives. The more we are able to do for children in the early years to build a secure foundation, the better equipped they will be to respond to difficulties and relationships in later life.
