Abstract

The number of general practitioners succumbing to mental health issues has increased sharply over the past couple of years—at least in the capital. GPs comprised 37% of the caseload at the London based Practitioner Health Programme (PHP) in 2010-11, but they now represent over 50%, preliminary figures from the PHP show. The confidential service, which is funded by clinical commissioning groups in London, treats psychological and addiction problems among doctors and dentists living in London, with referrals accepted from certain other areas in the south of England on a cost per case basis.
