Abstract

ABSTRACT To say that the times are turbulent for EAPs in the radical transition from fee for service to managed healthcare is a vast understatement. But the issue is not to criticize the system because the system is evolving. The issue is to capitalize on this evolution. This paper will reveal some bad experiences with the current managed healthcare system; the general resistance to change; the uniqueness of mental healthcare; the permanence of a managed healthcare system; what loopholes to close; and the necessary proactive adaptation to the evolving healthcare system by emphasizing both inclusivity and comprehensibility.
