Abstract

This paper investigates antecedents to seeking help for mental health in military personnel using the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) considering the role of leadership support and coworker support climates. This paper contributes to the literature by applying a widely-supported theory and incorporating leadership support climate and coworker support climate into the mental health help-seeking literature. Attitudes towards mental health help-seeking were positively related to mental health help-seeking intentions. In addition, attitudes mediated the relationship between leadership support climate and mental health help-seeking intentions. These results support the importance of leaders influencing subordinates to seek help for mental health.
