Abstract

Introduction The Great Lakes Regional Conference on Mental Health and Psychosocial Interventions was convened in Burundi on the 24 and 25 of January, 2008 by the Ministry of Public Health in Burundi and HealthNet TPOBurundi.This was a follow up to a conference held on ‘Integration of Mental Health into Primary Health Care’ that took place in 2006.The overall objective of the conference was to promote regional sharing of experiencesby various stakeholders, including: governments, nongovernmental organizations, UNagencies, and others active in the ¢eld of mental health. Representatives were invited from Uganda, Southern Sudan, Tanzania, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.Theconferencealsoincludedexcellent representations fromtheBurundianMinistry of Public Health and Prevention of HIVAIDS.
