Abstract
Objective: The present study was performed to study the prevalence of headache in adolescences during menstrual cycle and the impact of associated factors. Methods: A specific questionnaire was distributed to adolescences (13-18 years old) at high schools in Eskisehir city of Turkey. The prevalence rates of headache during menstrual cycle and associated factors analyzed. Beck Depression Inventory scale was used to assess the psychological status of girls. Results: This study was conducted with 2485 adolescences. The mean age was 15.90±1.08 years old. The prevalence of menstrual headache was calculated as %26.0 (n=646). Age, early onset of menstruation, socioeconomic status, smoking, amount of daily coffee & coke consumes, and dysmenorrhea were associated factors. Th scores of Beck Depression Inventory of girls with headache were higher than girls without headache. Conclusion: Our study indicated that headache is an important complaint of adolescences in Turkey. It might affect the girls’ quality of life.
