Preview As more and more women participate in competitive sports, disorders of menstrual function and the resultant risk of skeletal injury have become significant concerns. Primary care physicians can have a key role in identifying patients at risk and helping them to stay active while avoiding serious morbidity. Dr DiFiori discusses the relationship between menstrual dysfunction and loss of bone mineral density and offers a practical approach to evaluation and treatment.
