Abstract

Preservation of the injured meniscus tissue is the ideal goal of surgical treatment. However, many meniscal tears are not repairable with the result a loss of varying degrees of meniscal tissue. Various techniques are available to replace either portions of lost meniscal tissue or the entire meniscus. These techniques include the use of scaffolds, meniscal allografts, and synthetic meniscal implants. This article reviews the techniques utilized to restore the deficient meniscus.
