Abstract
The dura mater is rich in tissue-resident macrophages originally derived from yolk sac precursors. Rua et al. (Nat. Immunol., 2019) investigated meningeal macrophages (MMs) in the context of viral infection and found that the replenishment of the MM compartment by peripheral monocytes decreases its ability to detect and respond to microbes.
