Abstract
Advertisement is an object and we are the subjects who look at the object. However, “to gaze at” doesn’t just mean to look at.When we “gaze at” the advertisement, there is a depth of field relating to the code of delivering the advertisement that has various levels. This article discusses the level of depth of field in the advertisement of Rebook of Easytone and Reetone series.Based on the reading of the advertisement, it is revealed that the first level of “to look at” is to gaze at the reality, which is the subject only look at the image (picture) presented in the advertisement. The second level is to look at what is represented by the whole reality. Whoever looks at the advertisement can freely translate it according to their respective interpretation. For the third level, it is related to the power or particular ideology serving as the background of the reality and the representation. Ultimately “to gaze at” an advertisement can play a further role and not just merely an influence caused by a persuasion tobuy the product being advertised, but to create a sexual abnormality among women to enjoy sensuality and the exhibition ofthe beauty of fake body as the result of a media construction.
