Abstract

This reflective essay, written from the perspective of an assistant psychologist working with people with epilepsy, won the 2019 International League Against Epilepsy Gowers Clinical Science Essay Competition. It uses case examples to explore remediable factors affecting memory in people with epilepsy. It highlights the role a neuropsychology team can play in unravelling what is often a complicated interaction of multiple factors affecting cognition and the benefit of explaining these to patients. This piece also explores how the author’s knowledge in this area has improved and how this will affect her clinical practice going forwards.
