Abstract

The ms. 675 of the Bibliotheque d’etude et de conservation of Besancon is an emblematic testimony of the historiographic culture of the mid-fifteenth century in Sicily, because it appears as a collection of texts of different dating, united to constitute a complete history of the Sicilian monarchy. It belonged to the aristocratic family of Speciale, coming from the bureaucratic-administrative class, which is the urban elite that carried out his duties and built its fortunes between the cities and the Court, and that had his interlocutor and his constant reference point in the monarchical power. For this reason, the manuscript is also testimony and significant instrument for the transmission of a family memory, which identifies itself with the history of the monarchy.
