Abstract

The New York earthquake of April 20 appears to have originated along a fault coincident with Lake George which is a long, narrow body of water lying in a line roughly 30° east of north. The shock has been reported as felt at about 100 localities and reports are still coming in. The regions of maximum intensity are all in the region of Lake George and the isoseismal lines are elongated in such a way as to indicate relatively equal intensity throughout the length of the lake. If any part is given preference in point of maximum intensity it would probably be the southern end.
