Abstract

In the UK, Cranfield University is developing what it describes as a waterless hygienic toilet – the Nano Membrane Toilet – which will be able to treat human waste on-site without relying on external energy or water. The university reports it has now received further funding which will enable the developers to create a more energy-efficient system that will complete the treatment of human waste – a potential life saver for the 2.5 billion people in the developing world without access to basic sanitation.
