Abstract
The article presents the main milestones of the scientific work of the Soviet and Russian scientific hygienist, health care organizer, and full member of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR (1988) — RAMS, RAS (2013), member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Boris Tikhonovich Velichkovsky. The sphere of scientific interests of academician B.T. Velichkovsky covered such areas as occupational health and occupational diseases, molecular biology and ecology, public health and healthcare, social biology. He was the founder of new directions of scientific research. The theory of the pathogenesis of occupational dust lung diseases developed by B.T. Velichkovsky deserved special recognition in the scientific community of our country and abroad.
