Abstract

A numerical study of the solution of the mathematical problem corresponding to the melting of a solid metallic body, heated by the action of an exterior electromagnetic field, is presented. The extended finite element method is used for the numerical analysis. The melting interface is geometrically modeled by a level set function whose evolution is obtained by applying a discontinuous Galerkin method to the Hamilton-Jacobi equations.
