Abstract

Presented article reports unsteady squeezed flow of an electrically conducting fluid between two parallel plates. Upper plate squeezes towards the lower stretchable plate. Non-Fourier (Cattaneo–Christov) heat flux model is employed in order to analyze heat transfer characteristics. Furthermore melting effect is considered. The relevant problems are reduced to ODEs by adequate transformations. Series solutions for velocity and temperature are constructed by optimal homotopy analysis method. Variations in skin friction coefficient, velocity and temperature are studied under the influence of involved physical parameters. Skin friction coefficient can be reduced by using higher Hartman number, melting parameter and squeezing parameter. As expected decay in velocity of fluid is noted for larger Hartman number. Fluid temperature and Nusselt number are enhanced for higher thermal relaxation parameter and Prandtl number.
