Abstract

Precise analyses of liquid structures of pure CeCl 3 and ErCl 3 were made by consulting the bond lengths in crystals and the volume changes on melting, allowing for octahedral geometry around the lanthanide atoms and the corner-sharing linkage of octahedra in molten CeCl 3 and the edge-sharing combination of octahedra in molten ErCl 3.
