Abstract

Recent cases suggest that melioidosis, an infection caused by Burkholderia pseudomallei, is an emerging infectious disease. Nurses have a key role in the care of patients with melioidosis. This article provides an overview of the epidemiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of melioidosis, and discusses unusual, non-travel-related cases of melioidosis.
