Abstract

In northern Norway there are very marked seasonal variations in light intensity, with the sun above the horizon day and night for several weeks in the summer, and below the horizon for a similar period in the winter — the ‘season of obscuration’. Therefore, there are excellent opportunities for studying circadian and seasonal variations in biological functions in northern Norway.
