Abstract

The recovery of melanoidin and betaine from aqueous solutions was investigated by sorption onto anion and cation exchange resin, respectively. The effect of pH and temperature was studied in single component batch experiments. The data followed the Langmuir–Freundlich model. Desorption of solutes from the resins is feasible by employing KOH. The effect of contact time and initial solute concentration was studied in two component batch consecutive sorption experiments. The kinetic data followed the pseudo-second order kinetic model and equilibrium followed the Langmuir–Freundlich model. Two successive cycles of sorption–desorption were realized for the two component system in two consecutive fixed beds. The breakthrough curves were fitted to Thomas dynamic model.
