Abstract
The root of the word melancholy is Latin in etymological dictionaries and entered the French language as melancholia in the 13th century. Despite being expressed by the word love in Turkish, the root of the word belongs to sevda meaning black, in Arabic. This term was used as malihulya meaning being enamored with someone, at the time of Ottoman. Nowadays, the term melancholy is commonly used to mean a mood disorder because one's living a lethargic lifestyle to the point of subnormally lacking enthusiasm due to depression. Shahzadah Korkut has been described by the specialist historians of his era as someone who is quite fond of entertainment and also innately disturbed and melancholic. Thus, as opposed to becoming a national leader, he was spending his time with scientific research; consequentially being habituated to spending his time with the music to dissipate mental fatigue can be evaluated as symptoms of being melancholic. In this research which was drawn from secondary data, the traces of the structure of Shahzadah Korkut’s melancholic personality will be pursued through historical resources. The relationship between Melancholy and Governance will be investigated in the sampling of Shahzadah Korkut, in other words, this will be a psychobiography study. Hence, after Shahzadah Korkut’s biography having been mentioned, the reasons for his melancholic personality disposition will be displayed through psychological data. The ways of interaction between the concept of melancholy and governance will be investigated and in conclusion, as a person of hard times, Shahzadah Korkut’s problems, traumatic experiences, melancholy and mental fatigue will be discussed and analyzed.
