Abstract

In order to minimise the mass of a megawatt-level space fission power system, a scheme is presented for determining the minimum mass power conversion system for a given set of reactor conditions. Methods for estimating the masses of various power cycle components are presented, using basic physical models tied to real-world component data wherever possible. This scheme complements a reactor analysis routine presented previously, forming the basis of an objective and constraint function evaluation to be used in a global mass-minimising optimisation process.
