Abstract

ABSTRACT In these divided times, where people are blaming “the other” for the problems that face us all, the emotional intelligence offered by O’Neill’s works is needed more than ever. O’Neill, unfortunately, is not well known beyond the academic and professional theater communities. In order to make O’Neill more accessible to everyday people, the article author launched an online Meetup group where the participants discuss one play each month. The meetings focus on discussion of O’Neill’s plays on a visceral level, relating the works to everyday life. The meetings have proved successful, with robust attendance most months and each member providing compelling insights—often relating the plays to their current world views and personal experiences.
