Abstract

An extension is described to a previously published computer simulation of the facultative water-reabsorption process in the mammalian kidney. The simulation has been converted from an analogue- to a digital-computer program. It has been extended to include the effect on the medullary osmolality of the transfer of sodium from the loop of Henle to the vasa recta. In addition, the simulation has been modified to take into account a pressure rise in the medullary interstitial space during the onset of diuresis.
