Abstract

Pilgrims to the Bosnian town of Medjugorje find peace at the heart of several conflicts that involve ethnic, religious, and political tensions; the natural and the supernatural; rural and urban lifestyles; the role of the Catholic Church; the sacred and the profane; and the Virgin Mary's messages. Peace within this place is found by creating community, the Other, ritual, and myth.
