Abstract
The paper presents aspects related to Smart Grid observability and Power Quality assessment in medium and low voltage networks, by using the Unbundled Smart Meter (USM) concept [1]. Smart meters are placed at the border of connection point to the network, for any prosumer and when deployed through large roll-outs, become the most abundant equipment in active distribution networks. With this near future in mind, our approach is securing Smart Grid observability and improved Power Quality (PQ) assessment based on distribution of probabilities, to improve operation & control of active networks in the presence of distributed energy resources and to provide Smart Grid services such as voltage secondary control and congestion avoidance in medium / low voltage networks. The paper presents also some results of using Unbundled Smart Meter solution already deployed in real environments pilots in two distribution networks: Alginet/Spain and Bucharest/Romania.
