Abstract
SummaryCases of medical negligence occurring in the British Isles and elsewhere are usually notified to one of the Defence Societies e.g. The Medical Defence Union (MDU), The Medical Protection Society (MPS) or The Medical and Dental Defence Union of Scotland (MDDUS). The majority of cases are dealt with by the first two organisations. Twelve thousand new cases from all specialties were notified to the MDU alone in 1985.
