Abstract

A study was carried out in the Pujehun District of Sierra Leone, West Africa, on the traditional use of plants for curing human diseases. The use of medicinal plants is still widespread especially in the villages and is usually the first treatment utilised. Fifty nine local plant species used for treating various illnesses were collected, identified and deposited in the Fourah Bay College Herbarium. Their medicinal uses and methods of preparing the drug are described.
