Abstract
The transportation of patients by ambulance from the scene of an accident to the hospital or between hospitals has taken place for many years. Consequently, this has generated a distinct body of regulation and legal thought concerning these activities. Because the vast majority of this type of activity has taken place via ground ambulance, most of the rules, regulations and law pertains to ground ambulance operations. The air transportation of patients, however, does pose unique questions and issues not common with ground ambulance transportation. These differences not only relate to the service, itself, but also relate to equipment, personnel and the operation of the system. The majority of air transport programs differ from ground ambulance transport programs in several ways.
