Abstract

In September, 1960, a Seminar on Professional Medical Training was held in Santiago, in which official representatives of the three medical schools, the Medical College and the National Health Service participated. One of the main objectives of the seminar was reach an accord on a conception of present-day medicine and the functions within it which correspond to the physician.l The ideal characteristics which medical practice should display in Chile were outlined, and a series of general recommendations were made for a plan of medical education. Moreover, the Permanent Commission on Professional Medical Training was created to implement those recommendations.
