Abstract

Something new has been added. This slender volume is neither an atlas nor a textbook but a richly illustrated survey of medical ophthalmology. It presents more than 270 color prints in its 64 pages and spans the whole of ophthalmic manifestations of systemic disease, from albinism to zoster. There is but a modest amount of text, and it is all lean meat; yet, amplified by good photographs and drawings, a remarkable breadth of coverage has been attained. Of the eight chapters that comprise the book, six present surveys covering medical and pediatric ophthalmology, external eye disease, eye injuries, and neuro-ophthalmology. Two chapters, those on hypertension, arteriosclerosis, and the retina and on glaucoma, are done in greater depth. Everywhere, the emphasis is on diagnosis and recognition.
