Abstract
<h3>'Pot' research reported by psychiatrists</h3> Questions raised by conflicting reports on the effects of smoking marihuana have become a source of considerable concern to both the medical profession and the general public. In an attempt to help clear up at least some of the confusion, Congress has created a National Commission on Marihuana and Drug abuse to gather and evaluate objectively all medical and scientific information available on the effects of cannabis. The commission's findings will be released next March. Meanwhile, reports on the personal, social, moral, and political implications of marihuana smoking continue to accumulate (<i>JAMA</i><b>216:</b>486 [April 19] and<b>216:</b>1464 [May 31] 1971). The many papers and panel discussions devoted to the subject at the recent American Psychiatric Association meeting in Washington, DC, is another reflection of the scientific interest in marihuana.
