Dr. Rowden was in the chair.Dr. R. Fawcitt (Ulverston) showed slides:—(1) The skull of a case of osteitis fibrosa cystica in a woman aged forty-eight years.(2) The skull of a boy aged fifteen years. The anterior and posterior clinoid processes bridged the pituitary fossa which was seen to be much diminished. Clinically, the condition of the youth was typical of dystrophia adiposo genitalis.(3) The skull of a case diagnosed radiologically as a tumour in the anterior fossa of the skull. This was subsequently found to be a gliosarcoma involving the optic chiasma.Dr. G. Vilvandre (London) opened the discussion on diseases of the urinary tract, which he illustrated with slides. He emphasised the importance of preliminary preparation of the patient in order to obviate the effect of gas in the bowel on the skiagrams. He has found cascara sagrada evacuans the most satisfactory aperient. He makes it a practice always to see a preliminary skiagram of the renal tract region before reading the films of a urographic investigation. This ensures that calculi previously visible are not missed through being masked by the dye. Urinary calculi presenting the characteristics of gall stones—lamination with dense periphery—are localised by a lateral skiagram. He discussed briefly the history of intravenous and retrograde urography. He reminded the meeting of the dangers associated with retrograde pyelography.
