Abstract

Experience with 4 cases of bilateral choanal atresia in a newborn infant is recorded. The patients were managed conservatively by inserting a small oropharyngeal airway for a few weeks until the infant was capable of breathing through the mouth. This method obviates the need for immediate surgery. The method has been successful in our hands and is recommended for the initial management of bilateral choanal atresia.
