Abstract

Sinusitis remains one of the most prevalent diseases in the United States. Despite this, the diagnosis is often overlooked because of subtle presentation. Clinical suspicion may be confirmed with the use of imaging procedures; a high degree of sensitivity and accuracy is achieved with the use of sinus CT scanning. Sinus infections should be treated as an infection within an enclosed space. Therefore it is imperative to select an appropriate antibiotic, and the agent must be prescribed for an appropriate duration. Sinus drainage must also be facilitated, and the adjunctive use of decongestants, topical corticosteroids, and mucoevacuants is helpful in this regard.
