Abstract
Towers speculates about the potential dangers of advances in reproductive technologies, especially in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer. Procreation to increase the power of the state, à la Aldous Huxley's Brave New World, is one feared result. Loosening the biological and/or psychological ties between mother and child is another. He advocates open discussion of these issues because society, not just doctors and patients, should choose the uses to which these technologies will be put.
