Abstract

In this paper, study of medical imaging in heterogeneous telemedicine network is done. Wireless protocols suitable in personal area network (PAN) and wireless local area network under different traffic loads are tested by transmitting CT, MRI and US medical images in DICOM format. The RFCOMM and L2CAP Bluetooth protocols are used for PAN. FTP client and server are established for Wi-Fi transmission. In real time medical application, delay incurred while transmission plays a vital role, thus transmission times in each case is recorded and compared. To reduce the transit time, compressive sensing (CS) technique is used to reduce the image size to approximately half. It is found that the transmission time using L2CAP protocol is very much lesser as compared to RFCOMM. The quality of reconstructed image at receiver is measured using MSE, PSNR and SSIM parameters. CT and MRI images are reconstructed with comparatively better quality measurement parameter values. Image denoising algorithms may be applied on reconstructed US images.
