Abstract
In previous columns I have called attention to the class-action suits being brought by public-service law firms and other groups on behalf of consumers, including medical patients.1 Among the most active of the legal groups have been the neighborhood law offices supported by the Office of Economic Opportunity. The primary concern, or primary client population, for these offices has been the poor. In the medical field, these Office of Economic Opportunity lawyers have concentrated a great deal of their efforts on class-action suits against nonprofit hospitals in various parts of the country for their failure to provide a "reasonable amount" . . .
