Abstract

Medical care system for diabetes mellitus of our hospital is introduced, also describing how physical therapists are concerned with the system. Major roles of physical therapists in the medical care for diabetics are; 1) to investigate a leading method for patients, and a method of clinical guidance, 2) to improve knowledge and techniques for diabetes mellitus, 3) to study the effect of exercise therapy, and 4) health education. Followings are problems to be solved in the field of exercise therapy; sports activity for young diabetics, exercise therapy for diabetics with obesity or hypertension and for infant diabetics, substantial follow-ups for a discharged patient, and exercise for patients with serious complications.
