Abstract
A review of total fluoride intake as it pertains to chronic fluoride overdosage and to the development of skeletal and dental fluorosis is presented. A recommendation of the use of alternatives to the addition of fluoride to drinking water supplies is offered, in order to avoid biological multiplication of fluoride through foods and beverages and to avoid total body exposure to fluoride when topical methods are effective.
