Abstract

Acute appendicitis (AA) remains the most common surgical emergency worldwide. Currently, the preferred treatment modality for AA in adults is laparoscopic appendectomy. However, alternative and efficient therapies have emerged in the last years. For instance, non-operative management, endoscopic appendectomy, and robotic appendectomy are now considered for patients with AA. The aim of this study was to analyze the evolution of medical and surgical management of AA in order to define current standards and future directions.
