Abstract
† In September 1980, the present Editor, assisted by Patricia G. Evans, agreed to supervise and edit an English translation of the text “Les Institutions Sociales de la France”, produced by Documentation Francaise in 1979, the English version to be published by Gordon and Breach Inc. The Editor wishes to acknowledge with deep gratitude the permission obtained from Documentation Francaise to reproduce an Abstract from Chapter 6 — “Motherhood, childhood and youth” ‐compiled under the direction of Mme le Docteur Viguie, Principle Inspector for Health. The Editor is of the view that the detailed and systematic treatment of information relating to the arrangements for medical and medico‐social supervision of mothers and young children in France, will be of interest to the readership, and is not readily available elsewhere, in English.
