Abstract
Medicaid payment rates for psychiatric services continue to lag behind comparable Medicare reimbursement in most states, with wide variation in rates across the country, a newly published study reported. While low payment rates are thought to contribute to a shortage of psychiatrists treating low‐income patients, the study's researchers suggest that simply increasing reimbursement rates might not be enough to shore up the workforce.
