Mediastinal giant thymolipoma: report of one case and review of literature

Abstract

Objective To investigate the related pathogenesis,clinical manifestations,diagnosis,and treatment of thymolipoma for clinical reference.Methods The diagnosis and treatment of one case of mediastinal giant thymolipoma were summarized.The cases which had pathology evidence were analyzed by searching for chinese and foreign literature database.Results The thymolipoma was a rare benign tumor in the anterior mediastinum,the specific pathogenesis was unclear,clinical manifestations were nonspecific,some cases complicated with autoimmune diseases,CT and MRI could assist the diagnosis,identifying the diagnosis need the pathology evidence,and surgical resection was the only method to cure.Conclusions The thymolipoma is a benigh tumor and most sits at anterior mediastinum,no recurrce case after surgical resection has been reported,video-assisted thoracoscope is the first selection for resection of the tumor.
