Abstract

We introduce the possibilities that mediation offers when resolving the conflictive situations that people with special needs and their families live. It is necessary to create a cooperative spirit in order to transform into satisfaction the frustration and sorrow that people with special needs and their families experience, from the acknowledgement of their rights with the purpose to increase their participation in the society and their access to the decision-making. The theoretical root of mediation is negotiation, its success is intertwined in the process of mediation and in the profile of the mediator which helps the generation of agreement between the parties in dispute, with the objective to obtain the satisfaction of the interests of all the parties involved, creating a new relationship for the future.
