Abstract

The Media Informatics degree was first available at the Technical University of Dresden in 1999, and with ever-increasing enrolment, has established itself at an international as well as nationally recognized programme. The degree emphasizes planning electronic media design in combination with practical knowledge regarding the development of new multimedia systems via the following course focus and specializations: (1) The structure and function of complex distributed computer systems and technological multimedia trends—with specializations in computer and VLSI architectures, networks, transmission techniques, operating and multimedia systems. (2) Media types, formats, registration, treatment design of multimedia documents and applications—with specializations in multimedia technology, media design and computer graphics, identification systems and image processing. (3) Information handling, data safety, multimedia publishing—with specializations in data banks, information and coding theory, multimedia technology. (4) Design methods, realization techniques, design tools, test processes, project management for complex distributed multimedia applications—with specializations in software technology, programming languages and tools, cooperative multimedia applications, and media design and computer graphics. (5) Human computer interaction, multimedia and intelligent user interfaces, ergonomics, perception and multimedia psychology, didactics, usability—with specializations in human computer communication, media design and computer graphics, multimedia engineering, knowledge processing, didactics and computer sciences.
