Abstract

Over the past decade, major social and economic transformations have led to many changes in the societies of many developing countries in Southeast Asia. The most obvious changes include the privatization of the economic sectors, the decentralization of state governance, and the growing tendency toward democracy. Recently, the terms ‘good governance’ and ‘democracy’ have been seen more in the official literature as well as heard in the everyday language of the people. Good governance and democracy are being implemented thanks to the spirit of unity and collaboration between the government and components of society, including civil society and the media. This paper seeks to clarify the positions of civil society and the media as key factors in the democratization of society, as supporters of good governance in Vietnam.
